CWB’s Sharpie Colleen Wagner is ‘in the Boatshop’
CWB’s Boatwright, Joe Green, has a wonderful tumblr page called ‘In the Boatshop’. He’ll keep you apprised of the goings-on in the boatshop at CWB in South Lake Union, or the new boatshop up at North Lake Union, depending on the size of the boat he’s working on at the moment. Currently, he’s repairing (with the help of several volunteers!) the Sharpie Colleen Wagner. It’s a messy job, but somebody’s got to do it, and it will take about four more weeks.
The Colleen Wagner is a replica of Egret, designed by Ralph Munroe and built in 1885. A sailing sharpie is a narrow, flatbottom vessel with a centerboard, inboard balanced rudder and unstayed masts. She is a gaff-rigged cat ketch.
This particular sharpie was launched in 2001, built by students of the Marine Carpentry School of Seattle Central Community College. The boat was funded through donations by CWB members and named for CWB’s co-founder. The boat has a beam of 7′ and is 28′ long and will continue to carry passengers during CastOFF! upon its return to the water.
