Volunteers are the key to another GREAT Festival!

July 12, 2012

Over the five days from June 30th to July 4th we all welcomed 30,000 people into Lake Union Park for the 36th Annual Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival! Amazing fun!

Once again we have to tip the big CWB hat to the real stars of the Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival. No; not the boats. They are pretty, but the CWB volunteers are the ones who really make this happen. And they did it again. It is crazy when you think about it….5 days of festival, and volunteers just kept coming and coming.

Because of that support thousands upon thousands of visitors enjoyed toy boat building, pond boat sailing, free boat rides, kite making, climbing aboard new and old wooden boats, and running through the fountain in Lake Union Park!

The comment boards were full of messages from folks who love wooden boats as much as we do. There was less poetry on the boards this year…but a lot more of you were inspired to leave doodle art!

Thanks to everyone who came out to Festival, and we are also extremely grateful for the support of our sponsors: Vulcan Real Estate, Holland American Line, Jillian’s Billiards, Safeco Insurance, West Marine, Pemco Insurance, The Seattle Mariners, Virgin Mobile, Thain Boatworks/Earthwise Ventures, KPLU-FM, KUOW-FM, Classic KING-FM, The Shelton Mason County Journal, Port Townsend Foundry, Orca Creative, The Drachen Foundation, Seafair, 4Culture, The City of Seattle office of Arts & Culture, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Pilgrim Media Services, and At Lake Union Park. We would also like to give a big shout out to Family 4th at Lake Union Presenting Sponsor Starbucks and major sponsors Microsoft, and the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce for their support, and One Reel for producing the MOHAI-designed Cheshiahud Challenge, a spectacular fireworks display, and the special day of live music in both Gas Works Park and at the Wooden Boat Festival in Lake Union Park on Independence Day.
