GiveBIG to CWB Today!

June 23, 2011

What is GiveBIG?
All day today, the Seattle Foundation will be stretching donations to area nonprofits with funds from generous sponsors. That means any donation to an eligible nonprofit today, through the Seattle Foundation, goes further. It’s a great campaign, and we’re excited to see it benefit a lot of nonprofits in the region. The Seattle Foundation is calling it GiveBIG.

Why should I give to The Center for Wooden Boats?
The Center for Wooden Boats preserves maritime heritage in the heart of Seattle as well as at a historic fishing resort on Camano Island. We do this by teaching kids of all ages how to sail, by passing along maritime skills to future generations through workshops and hands-on activities; and by helping toddlers build their first toy boat. We offer free sailboat and powerboat rides in historic boats every weekend of the year. We rent historic boats that the public can use to get out on the water. We believe that everyone should have access to the Northwest’s playground.  In order to do all these things, we depend on the support of members, donors, volunteers and sponsors. Join this group by making a gift to CWB through GiveBIG!

When does GiveBIG begin and end?
GiveBIG begins at 7:00 a.m. and runs through 11:59 p.m. on June 23, 2011. This is a 17-hour period.

How does the “stretch pool” and match work?
Credit card donations made during this time period will be counted as GiveBIG donations and used to calculate distribution of the stretch pool. The amount of a nonprofit organization’s share of the stretch pool will be based on the percentage of donations the nonprofit receives of the total online contributions made through http://www.seattlefoundation.org on June 23. In other words, distribution of the stretch pool will be pro-rated. If X organization receives 1% of the donations through our site on GiveBIG, they will receive 1% of the stretch pool dollars.

Is there a minimum contribution?
The suggested minimum gift is $25, but you are free to enter any amount.

What makes an organization eligible to participate in GiveBIG?
Any 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a completed profile on http://www.seattlefoundation.org is eligible to participate in GiveBIG and receive funds from the stretch pool.

How do I find The Center for Wooden Boats on the website?
This is CWB’s page: http://www.seattlefoundation.org/npos/Pages/CenterforWoodenBoats.aspx?bv=nposearch. Click on the ‘Donate Now’ button to make a donation.

Is there a limit to the amount an organization can receive from the stretch pool?
There is no maximum to the amount an organization may receive from the stretch pool.

Can donors call in contributions on that day or send a check or does the gift have to be made online?
The Foundation will accept online contributions only for GiveBIG. The Seattle Foundation website has the highest level of security and your personal information will be safe if you make an online contribution through http://www.seattlefoundation.org.

What is a “Golden Ticket?”
A Golden Ticket is an opportunity for a nonprofit organization to receive an additional $1,000 on GiveBIG. Organizations will be selected randomly from the online donations made through http://www.seattlefoundation.org every hour between 7:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, June 23. Golden Tickets are not part of the stretch pool and are in addition to any portion of the stretch pool an organization receives.

Do I need a login to make a contribution?
No, you do not need a login to make a donation through The Seattle Foundation’s website.

Make a Donation – OF ANY AMOUNT – to CWB through Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG Challenge.
