CWB Recognized by International Award

November 15, 2010

The Center for Wooden Boats (CWB) has been recognized with an international award from the Waterfront Center  that recognizes the outstanding efforts of individuals and non-profit organizations working at the grassroots level for the betterment of their community and its waterfront. The award was announced November 5th in Baltimore at the annual Waterfront Center conference.

Jury Chair Fran Hegeler, VP AECOM presented the awards. “This annual international awards program is intended to highlight projects that celebrate waterfronts as a community resource– whether focused on primarily Civic, Commercial, Residential, Environmental, or (usually) some combination. It’s about sound planning. It’s about design. But it’s really about celebrating waterfronts and their potential in renewing our communities.”

Criteria for selection include: sensitivity to water, quality and harmony of design, and civic, environmental and educational contributions. Clearwater Award winners demonstrate accomplishment, collaboration and diversity in community involvement. Hegler said about CWB, “today, this pioneering and visionary institution with its large volunteer corps serves over 100,000 people annually, without losing its informality or creativity. The Center is an anchor of a new 12-acre Lake Union Park.”

CWB was nominated by Flo Lentz, of King County’s 4Culture.
