Book Review: Sailing for Everyone
I have just read Sailing for Everyone by Simon Watts. We live on a planet which is two thirds navigable water. Everyone who stands on lands end dreams of what is beyond the blue horizon. Those who sail, know; and it doesn’t take two years before the mast to learn. Sailing for Everyone is a book one can read in a day and step aboard a good wooden boat, with Sailing for Everyone as a constant companion. In this book is a clear narrative on how to sail, sketches to make things obvious when words won’t, essential guidelines of navigation and seamanship.
I’ve taught about 1000 people from 8 to 80 how to sail. It’s a process that involves introduction to new reflexes, new language and new awareness of the forces of nature. Simon Watts has written (and sketched) a book that offers all the above in the best kind of way; clear, simple and with a sprinkling of humor.
