Seattle Artist’s Vision of Boats Selected for CWB 2012 Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival Poster
For the second year in a row, CWB has solicited artists to submit samples of their work with the hope of being selected as the Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival poster artist. This year’s winner has diligently worked with CWB over several months to craft an image that embodies the variety of vessels that can be seen at the annual Festival, and those that are iconic to CWB (such as the toy boat!). Congratulations to Anita Lehmann, an Architectural Illustrator and Seattle artist, who was selected because the judges felt that her work was strikingly delicate and representative of the fine craft of wooden boat building, which can be appreciated during the Festival. More of Anita’s work can be found on her website, www.ahldraws.com.
The 2012 Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival will be held from June 30 to July 4 at Lake Union Park and The Center for Wooden Boats. This year’s sponsors include Vulcan, Holland America Line, Safeco Insurance, Virgin Mobile, Pemco Insurance, The Shelton Mason County Journal, Thain Boatworks/Earthwise Ventures, KPLU, KUOW, King FM, Pilgrim Media Services, 4Culture, Port Townsend Foundry, Seattle Parks and Recreation, atLakeUnionPark, Seafair, and The Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs.
This year CWB is also thrilled to maximize the family fun all around Lake Union on the 4th of July by partnering with OneReel and coordinating with its Family Fourth at Lake Union presented by Starbucks, with major support from Microsoft and The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. Their sponsorship is bringing the fireworks to the lake and an evening of free local music to the Microsoft Stage at the Wooden Boat Festival; with performances by Hey Marseilles, Star Anna and the Laughing Dogs, and Campfire Ok. The music starts at 3pm and will keep spirits high until the fireworks show over Lake Union around 10pm. With OneReel’s Family Fourth at Gasworks, and CWB’s Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival in Lake Union Park, you have more opportunity than ever for a great place to spread your blanket for the Independence Day show.
Other Festival highlights include ‘Mariners night at the Mariners’ on Monday, July 2nd. View Reserved tickets to the Mariners vs Orioles game at 7:10 can be purchased at the discounted price of $15 each, and $7 of each ticket will go directly to supporting CWB! Purchase your tickets now at mariners.com/cwb . Another 2012 Festival highlight is Local Microbrew Night in the Jillian’s pub tent on Tuesday from 6 – 8pm. Punch cards can be purchased (by visitors 21+) that can be redeemed for tasters from a variety of local breweries, including Elysian Brewing Company, Hale’s Ales, and Odin Brewing Company. CWB Staff will be present to pour you a beer or two and swap sea stories.
It’s sure to be a great time and with five days of fun, there’s something for everyone and no excuse not to participate in Seattle’s most down-home, family-friendly festival of the year.
