Congratulations to the 2011 Festival Poster Artist!
Hannah Viano was selected as the 2011 Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival Poster Artist. Hannah submitted a black and white image of a sailboat in front of the CWB Boathouse. It was cut from a single piece of black paper.
Hannah has this to say about her work:
“In the last couple years I’ve had the pleasure of living on the shore of lake Union, and on the lake itself, getting to see it in many attitudes and angles as the seasons roll along. My favorite is the view from a small boat close to the water, sailing amidst the raucous party of a warm summer afternoon, or quietly rowing into the shelter of a tiny pocket park in grey November. As a picture is only a hint of the place or experience it depicts, I love the way that a simple turn of line can suggest a family out on their boat or a celebration in the making. My work is done with an exacto knife and cut away from a sheet of black paper.”
Hannah exhibited her work in the CWB Boathouse from January – April of 2011. More of her work can be found on her website: www.devilspursediary.com.

Food vendors, live music, exhibits and a pub all add to the excitement throughout the weekend. On Monday, July 4th, limited Festival activities will run until the evening Fireworks show. Join us in the NEW Lake Union Park for terrific fireworks viewing.
The 2011 Festival will include:
Visiting Vessels: Proud owners from all over the area come to show off their classic wooden vessels.
Public Rides: Take a trip on Lake Union by sail, row, paddle, steam, electric or power boat. Sign ups are taken in-person, the day of the ride only. Boats fill up fast; sign up early!
Activities for Kids: Toy boat building, treasure hunt, coloring contest, sidewalk chalk art and more!
Demonstrations: Onshore demonstrations such as Rope Fender Making, Tool Sharpening, Celestial Navigation and more!
Quick and Daring: Are they amazing, or just crazy? Watch teams build a boat in 24 hours and cheer them on as they launch and race in an exciting and hilarious regatta on Sunday. The contest is a stretching exercise for the boatbuilder’s creativity, planning, and construction skills, but its special purpose is to provide an exciting and enjoyable experience for contestants and spectators.
Live Music: There will be a variety of musicians performing all weekend long.
